There's No Place Like Home...Part 2!

In my rush to update you all on Grant, I forgot to let you all know about our exciting night last weekend...we had out first tornado watch/warning.

We decided to get out of the house for a little bit so Grant, Haley, Ryan and myself went to dinner at Hananoki in our sweats! By the time we were leaving dinner it was monsoon weather and Haley had the window wipers on at full speed!

Throughout the day we had been seeing things pop up on facebook about possible tornado warnings throughout different counties in TN and the surrounding states as the storm moved through.

By the time we got home, the weather channel was reporting tornadoes that had touched down in other parts of the country and that the storm was heading out direction. I was exhausted from taking care of Grant and we both hadn't slept very much...but we decided to clean out our walk in closet just in case...sure enough our tornado watch was upgraded to a warning and we spent almost two hours in our closet. Thankfully the past and we didn't hear of any actual tornadoes in Clarksville. However, when we woke up the next morning and saw the damage in Alabama we were very thankful.

All of the locals thought we were being silly, but I don't care............

Bottom line: We miss California. We miss the surprise of earthquakes. And we do not like warnings telling us a natural disaster is heading our direction. Especially one that might pick us up off the ground.

Allison arrives on FRIDAY!!!!!!!

There's No Place Like Home...

I know the blog posts have been lacking lately...but to say things have been hectic around here would be an understatement.

Last Friday Grant had surgery on his left foot to try and correct the nerve damage caused by his time in the Army. We had to get up at 4:30 am to be in Nashville by 6:00 am. His surgery was at 8:00 am and they actually started the surgery at 8:50 am. I was way WAY more nervous than he was. I'm used to being the patient. I know what it's like to lie in a hospital bed, get an IV, and talk to the doctors about what's going on with my body. I am NOT used to sitting in the waiting room while he goes through it. So Mom and Dad...thank you for all the time you spent waiting during my operations...I now know how incredibly awful that must have been. But thankfully, the surgeon said the surgery went as well as it could have gone; although things were a little more complicated inside Grant's foot than originally anticipated.

After I spoke with the surgeon, I thought it would be another 10 minutes until a nurse would come get me to see Grant. However, 45 minutes later, when no one had come to get me, I started to get a little worried (well actually I just got MORE worried). Just then, a wonderful nurse came out to apologize for not coming to get me sooner...apparently they had trouble waking Grant up...he just wanted to keep sleeping! Being with Grant after surgery was nothing short of hysterical...we had the same conversation 4, 5, 6, or even 7 times...and he called me Mom once because I was taking such good care of him...he caught himself at Ma and apologized profusely assuring me that he knew I was his wife and not his mother.

The first few days after surgery involved very little sleep for me and lots of painkillers for Grant. He's been a trooper and today is the first day he is finally feeling a little better. I am very relieved that he seems to be on the upswing although it will be another 4-5 weeks before he can walk again and another 4-6 months before we know if the surgery worked. We are very very tired around here and I am looking forward to Grant doing the dishes again.

Today was the Founder's Day Brunch in Nashville...it was very weird not to be celebrating in San Francisco with Allison...thankfully she arrives Friday afternoon for a much needed kite weekend! :)

But more than anything...we've been very tired around here and missing home...specifically having our moms take care of us and cook meals for us :) There's no place like home...and California will always be our real home.

GRIKI Wedding: Reception #2

We loved our wedding reception. So we decided to have another one. Unfortunately, at this one, all our friends and family from California were missing...and Niall wasn't our DJ...and my parents didn't foot the bill. But we made do and got to celebrate again with lots of our friends that make up our family here in Clarksville!!

I was really worried about not having enough desserts...but by the end of the night I was making people take goodie bags home filled with treats and still have the angel food cake to take to book club tomorrow night!

And while I did technically bake all of these desserts...they all came from a box mix. Most of which my mom found so I could have allergy safe options! But I did come up with one creation on my own...

I took over-sized toothpicks and put two marshmallows on each one. Then I made of batch of Hershey's Perfect Chocolate Frosting. I dipped each stick in and then sprinkled the frosting with chocolate chips. I called them "Ants on a Log" If I made them again I think I would coat one marshmallow with the frosting and chocolate chips and then put it on a graham cracker to serve as a mini smore!

Overall it has been a great, relaxing four day weekend thanks to some unexpected snow. We met with my cardiologist today who was pleased with the progress I've been making on the beta blocker and tomorrow I meet with a new allergist to discuss some possible causes of my POTS...

4 days until Grant's foot surgery...

Less than 3 weeks until Allison's here...

2 more family trips booked (Gordon and Mom in March!)

And 1 more trip in the works! (Lindsay and Scott!!)

The next few months are going to fly by...maybe I really will survive a winter here...but lately we've both been pretty homesick for some California sunshine!

GRIKI Wedding: Honeymoon!

I still can't believe that our wedding has actually come and gone. But is has, which means that we also went on our honeymoons (well, two actually!). We spent the 22nd and 23rd of December at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Those two days are pretty much a blur as we tried to catch up on our sleep. But we did get to see the Christmas version of Beach Blanket Babylon and wind our way through all the tourists in the City for the holidays.

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with our families where another memorable dinner at the Casa ensued. On the 16th we left for Sonoma where we stayed at The Lodge.

Staying in Sonoma was so much fun. We were able to walk around the square and eat lots of delicious food! It made our hearts ache to be back living in California where our friends and family are. Not to mention fabulous wine and food! We also had massages at the Spa where we were staying. They were wonderful to say the least.

We did venture over to Napa where we went wine tasting some more and even joined a wine club! We loved the wine at Louis M. Martini and are happy to know that it is legal to ship wine to TN.

After joining the wine club, we got a tour of the winery and learned lots of interesting facts!

We loved every minute of our time in Sonoma and Napa, and even managed to make it back to the Bay for New Years Eve with Scott and Lindsay!

GRIKI Wedding Update Coming Soon!

So I promise that as soon as I get the pictures, there will be a massive wedding post with all the details. But until then, those of you who are friends with us on facebook will be able to see the photos our family took. I promise the post will include all the wonderful details. But just know that the day was magic and perfect in every possible way. We were surrounded by our friends and family and as we were being driven to the city, Grant turned to me and said "Now I know why people get married every year!"

We spent the week after Christmas exploring Sonoma and Napa, so there will be another post with pictures to follow.

For New Years Eve 2011 we had dinner with Scott and Lindsay at Paragon!!

As you can see, we got all dressed up for our night out in the city. We spent most of our three hour dinner answering Table Topic for Couples Question...and really solidifying the confidentiality of our friendships :)

Now we are back in Clarksville, and slowly getting adjusted to the much colder temperatures! I started work this past week and really love working with students again. I am tutoring one student with autism and another student with ADHD. Last night we finally did the Cheap, Trashy Bar Crawl of some of the Clarksville finest establishments!

And we got a new piece of art for our place!!!
