baby griki update: weeks 21 and 22!

Weeks 21 and 22

Week 21 kicked off with Vlad's visit! Baby's first trip wine tasting (watching).  That week was HOTTTT.  We made it through the week without melting, but just barely.  I got to experience one of the most stereotypical pregnant women complaints....swollen, achy feet.

We got to celebrate 4th of July twice...Thursday with my family and a BBQ and Saturday at another 4th of July party.  Grant and I went to the same party together three years ago when we had just started dating.

Can't believe it's been three years since the photo on the left was taken...life just keeps getting better!

We ended the week by kicking off the guest room to nursery transformation.  We built the first two pieces of furniture and decided on a slipcover for the sofa that will stay in that room.  Everything will be pink and teal with grey accents and white furniture.  I'll write a post with pictures when the room is all finished!

Week 22 was exciting because Grant finally felt baby move!  I've been feeling flutters for the past few weeks, but now baby's kicks are getting much stronger.  Seeing his eyes get a big when he felt her kick has probably been the best moment of the pregnancy so far!

This week I got the glider and ottoman ordered for the nursery and we checked a few more pre-baby things off the to-do list.  But the biggest item of all this week was getting ready for Gordon's USC graduation and Harvard Law School send off party...post coming soon!

I've spent the past two weeks gearing up for baby, finalizing the registry, and revamping my entire class for fall.  I can't believe how quickly both this pregnancy and summer are flying by!

Greg and Allie are Tying the Knot!

Our friends Greg and Allie are getting married in New Jersey this weekend!
Grant and Greg were randomly placed together in the same apartment at goold old
Independence Place in Columbus, Georgia while they were both doing IBOLC at Fort Benning.
Allie and I quickly bonded over the ridiculousness of dating these two boys
and the crazy Army life that came along with the relationships.
I could not have gotten through that year without her!

We survived a very drunken night one January weekend in downtown Columbus
with their less than pleasant roommate and his terrible girlfriend....

And then of course there was the bonfire they built at their apartment complex...

...we were freezing!
I  can't believe only two years have passed since we took these photos...we look so young!

Somehow Allie and I never scheduled our flights out of Atlanta at the same time; but it was comforting to know that we were both crying our way through the airports on the same days...
Wish we could be there to celebrate your wedding--it's been too long!
Hope the day is magical!
Welcome to the Army Mrs. Scheffler...

Appropriate Adult Boundaries and Wine Tasting with Judgment

Grant's friend Vlad came to visit us this past weekend! They are Army friends from West Point and hadn't seen each other in five years.  Vlad has spent the past few years stationed in South Korea and was unable to make it out to the wedding to be a groomsmen so we were so excited when he was able to book a trip out to see us as part of block leave!

Of course...being that he is on block leave and all...there had to be a hold up with flight.  Now I realize that the Army doesn't control the flight schedule...but let's just say the word typical can definitely apply to the situation.  His flight with Spirit was delayed originally for a couple hours and ended up being delayed almost 12 hours! He was able to cancel his flight with Spirit and after explaining his situation to Southwest, they booked him on a flight leaving earlier than his original flight with Spirit.  One more reason why Grant and I love Southwest so much.

He arrived and after fighting the tunnel traffic from the A's game, the boys made it home!

Saturday morning we got up and headed to Napa with Allison for some wine tasting (watching).  We started at Louis Martini (our favorite) where they tasted and we ate a picnic lunch outside before it got warm sweltering.  Then we went to Hall Winery where the service was mediocre at best.  The only thing that kept us remotely interested in the place was that ever person who walked through the door looked like they could have been eligible for an episode of What Not to Wear.

It was so hot that Allison got super hungry before our car ride home...

After the second winery, we were melting from the heat and decided to head back home.  We all collapsed on the sofa with the air conditioning on for a few hours before heading out to sushi for dinner.  And of course, a trip to Lafayette wouldn't be complete without a tour of Walnut Creek's finest bars downtown...

Somehow the boys managed to wake up in time to head down to Stanford so Vlad could see the campus.  He's considering one of their graduate programs.  After they headed back, we went over the the weekly Sunday night dinner at my parent's house.  I appreciated the fact that Grant could watch the FIFA Confederations Cup final somewhere other than our apartment because after some of the games this tournament I'm sure our neighbors were wondering what all the screaming was about.  We ate way too much and topped the night off with s'mores by the fire pit.  The perfect way to end a great weekend!

baby griki update: weeks 19 and 20!

 Weeks 19 and 20

We have officially hit the halfway mark! It's hard to believe that in just a few more months, baby griki will be here! We are now in full swing getting ready for her arrival.

We kicked week 19 off with a trip to Buy, Buy, Baby to do the baby registry! Grant enjoyed the scanner and I enjoyed the itty bitty outfits.  After all that scanning we headed off to Grandpa's house for Father's Day with the family!

The first step to getting the guest room turned into a nursery was to move all of my teaching stuff to my new classroom so baby griki can have her closet.  So Grant and I took everything over to Campolindo and now have an empty closet ready for cute little baby outfits.

Week 20 was baby's first day of volunteering.  Grant and I spent the morning volunteering with Kids Against Hunger at a work volunteer event my sister organized!  Together we all packed 3, 456 meals to be shipped into disaster relief missions around the world.

After a quick sushi lunch we headed over to Ikea to pick up baby griki's dresser, crib, and teal cart (which we'll use next to the dresser for diaper supplies!).

We also decided to use the same pediatrician that both Grant and I had growing up.  She's amazing and both our families have spent lots of time in her care over the years.

Slowly but surely we're checking items off the massive to do list.

Not only am I starting to look more pregnant, but I'm also feeling more pregnant.  I'm hungry more (Grant might argue haannngrrryy more), exhausted, achy, and thanks to all the hot weather we've been having lately, my feet have been swelling.  The food allergies continue to be stressful--both my OBGYN and allergist have said no more eating out (other than the two sushi places we go all the time) until the baby arrives. So far no major POTS issues--other than the relentless exhaustion. At this point my pregnancy is more like that of Kim Kardashian than Kourtney Kardashian...
