Especially the electronics.  Sometimes I can find a better place for all my important things to live so I just move them around.  Someday they'll learn....

What a wonderful year it has been! Our sweet baby girl has turned into a sweet little toddler.  She was born with lots of personality and over the last year that personality continues to shine in every situation.  Marley knows exactly who she is, what she's comfortable doing, and what she would really prefer to do.  She is so sweet and loving (especially to Daddy and Kato!).  We are blessed by her excellent sleep and her hearty little appetite.  She loves exploring and discovering new things; but she's always happy to spend her time at home (That's how I know she's mine!).  We couldn't have asked for a better first year with Marley and can't wait to see what this next year brings.  We love you so much Marley!

Competitive eating. I pretty much try and taste everything I encounter.

A baker. I discovered Grandma's baking drawer this month. I love to pull out all the measuring cups but my absolute favorite is the tiny sifter. It's just my size! And this month I finally got to eat pumpkin AND blueberry muffins.  They are so delicious.

How are we already at 11 months?!? This month Marley went from being a baby to a little person.  We bought her first pair of shoes at Nordstrom--they even announced her name and purchase to the whole store! And she acquired her first pair of yoga pants. Next thing we know, she'll be wanting us to drop her off at the movies a block away.  This month has been the best month of all.  She loves playing games with us and is so interactive! She loves hide and seek, chase, and peek a boo.  She spends most of her time trying to outsmart us.  She's discovered how to efficiently stack the toys into the corner of her pack n play to fully access the light switch and see everything; she's figured out how to take the safety covers out of the outlets; and she's so close to reaching the door handles. She loves books and we read stories all day long.  She's got a soft spot in her heart for Wally and we usually let her watch an episode or two when she's getting really tired.  She waves and claps like a champ and is very particular about when she gives high fives.  We love her to the moon and back and can't wait to see what this month brings!

What do you and dad do together?
We do bath time together each night. Mom's too worried I'm going to drown but Daddy let's me play!

What is your favorite sport?
Track and field. I can't walk yet so it's just super fast crawling. I'm super speedy.

Where is your favorite place to go?
The back door. Mango likes to play hide and seek with me.

What is your favorite book?
Biscuit. He's so adorable and has the sneakiest tricks and tips for staying awake!

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
My doggies.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A librarian.  Each trip to my room resulted in a visit to my teal bookshelf.  It is just the right height for me to pull every single book of the shelf so Mama could read them to me. Sometimes, I would make her read a book two or three times.  I especially love the books with animals. Almost all my books have animals in them.

This first year is flying by. Marley is already ten months old and we are loving each month more and more.  She continues to grow into her personality--our little introvert who also likes to have all the attention on her. Her sleep pattern went back to being more consistent which we all enjoyed.  She loves real food and could eat puffs for days. The bath tub is one of her favorite places to be; although she does prefer to be on the floor playing with Kato and Mango. She is so independent but always likes to check that we aren't too far away. Any moment now she is going to stop standing still and start walking. We keep trying to hold onto her a little bit tighter (which she does not enjoy) and soak up all the baby snuggles we can while she is still little! (23 pounds!)

Miss Marilyn is NINE Months Old!

Marley is Nine Months Old!

Nine months old (but wearing 18-24 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
All the same--more consistently responding to my name!

What makes you happy?
Water!!

What makes you sad?
Being forced to take a nap when there are more exciting things to do.

What is your favorite animal?
Mango and Kato are my favorite animals.  Now that Mom is back at work, we get to spend our days together. Soon enough I think they'll start sharing their food.  Or maybe I'll just share mine.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
CHEESE.  Shredded mozzarella is the most delicious thing in the whole world.

What is your favorite thing to do?
Standing up.  Why would anyone sit down when they can STAND UP?!

What is your favorite song?
Anything by Raffi. That man has some wonderful concerts on DVD.  I'm not sure how I would have survived rain, a cold, and a new tooth in Tahoe without those soothing tunes.

What is your favorite TV show?
Anything that Mom's watching between the hours of 8:30 and 10:30pm.  Sometimes I wake up and cry and cry and cry until she caves and lets me snuggle for a few minutes in bed with her.

What are you really good at?
Crawling and standing up.

What is your favorite movie?
No movies this month!

What is your favorite color?
I've been going for all my green toys lately.  But for clothing options I mostly stick with pink or blue.

Who is your best friend?
Daddy.  I'm always reaching for him.

What do you and mom do together?
We love to play hide and seek when I'm in my pack n play.

What do you and dad do together?
Daddy helps me get ready for bed each night!

What is your favorite sport?
Playing tug of war.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Anywhere I can crawl to by myself. I'm an I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T woman.

What is your favorite book?
Moo, Ba, La, La, La.  I love turning the pages by myself when we read books.

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
Cheese. I really love cheese.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A hoarder.  Some of you may have seen how Mom outed my on social media earlier this week.  I really believe it's important to start collecting nice things at an early age so that I can sell them as antiques later on. Obviously Mom and Dad don't appreciate the value of a delicious paci...

I can't believe Marley is already NINE months old.  In the last month our baby girl has practically turned into a toddler.  She's crawling like a speed demon and pulling herself up whenever the opportunity presents itself (or when she can create an opportunity).  Every so often she'll even stand independently if we're close enough by that she feels safe.  She's babbling constantly and says da-da-da all the time.  She's the sweetest baby you'll ever meet unless you're keeping water from her or asking her to go to sleep--then we see her little temper flair and the dramatics come out.  She's giving great hugs and doing a great job of feeding herself.  The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind.  We took our first family vacation to Tahoe where Marley promptly sat her little butt down in the lake and wanted to touch the wet sand.  Our Saint Mary's babysitter started and Marley adores her.  And I went back to work for the new school year.  Fall is picking up full steam already and we can't wait to see how Marley continues to grow over this next month.

July 19, 2014

Miss Marilyn is EIGHT Months Old!

Marley is Eight Months Old!

 How old are you?
Eight months old (but wearing 12-24 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
All the same--more consistently responding to my name!

What makes you happy?
Being tickled.  I'm getting more and more ticklish all over! And my friend Aislinn who comes to play a couple times a week so Mom can get some stuff done.  She is SO much fun!

What makes you sad?
Loud cheering.  Daddy, Grandpa and Uncle Gordie sure know how to make a ruckus while watching soccer.  But then I burst into tears and all the attention is back on me and they are VERY quiet.

What is your favorite animal?
Ducks!!!! I got to see them in real life this month at my friend Bodhi's birthday party.  There was one that kept giving Daddy looks.  Daddy thought the duck thought I was looking pretty tasty so he protected me just in case the duck wanted a taste.  But don't worry--he didn't nibble me at all!

What is your favorite thing to eat?
Still pears.  Although Daddy ate a chocolate cupcake on the 4th of July that I almost grabbed before he took I bite.  I was so close.  And Mom keeps trying to feed me TINY pieces of puffs.  I don't know how I feel about the whole idea of feeding myself.  If the system ain't broke why would we fix it??

What is your favorite thing to do?
Play the piano! I make beautiful music and soon I'll starting adding lyrics.  Danika better get ready to play me on the radio!

What is your favorite song?
Mommy and I keep trying to convince Daddy that he should really listen to more top 40 with us. So far he's not on board.

What is your favorite TV show?
I could watch Clifford all day long. Love that cute dog.

What are you really good at?
Laughing and snuggling.

What is your favorite movie?
No movies this month!

What is your favorite color?
Hot pink! The perfect summer color.

Who is your best friend?
Mommy.  I'm reaching for her lots when there are more people around.

What do you and mom do together?
We have dance parties.  Lots and lots of dance parties.  Dad thinks he's too cool.  His loss.

What do you and dad do together?
Bath time! Dad makes sure I get all clean while Mom gets dinner ready.  I've finally mastered the art of splashing around.  I also enjoys sucking as much water from the washcloth as possible before he takes it away.

What is your favorite sport?
Jumping.  I've got skillz.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Out! I hate being cooped up in the house.  I prefer at least one small adventure each day!

What is your favorite book?
Little Pookie Learns to Dance.

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
My toys.  Mommy and Daddy lowered my crib this month because I was starting to pull up.  So now I'm trapped AND staring at my toys.  Mom has starting putting most of them away each night so that they are out of sight.  Sneaky mommy.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A mechanical engineer.  Whenever I play with a toy and it makes noise, I flip it over to try and figure out how it works. This fascination with how electrical things work combined with my almost crawling has increased the baby proofing efforts dramatically.  I'm getting blocked off from all the fun things in the house!

Month 8 brought along so many changes.  Our little baby has become a big squirmy baby interested in learning as much as she can about the world.  She's still sleeping through the night with the occasional wake up or two when she rolls over or loses her paci.  She's rocking on her hands and her knees and can now go from lying on her stomach to sitting up.  She loves jumping and laughing more than anything and is quite the babbling chatterbox. At playgroup she is very into touching all of her friends.  She wants to squeeze there cheeks, hold hands, or grab onto their arms.  We're explaining how to gently say hello to both her friends and the doggies. She just got her fourth tooth and is just starting solids foods (puffs)! And just the other day she crawled for the iPhone! She still prefers to be held--but we are ON THE MOVE!  We love her more and more each day and I really don't want summer to end!

Miss Marilyn is SEVEN Months Old!

Marley is Seven Months Old!

How old are you?
Seven months old (but wearing 12-18 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
I respond to Marley and Marilyn now!

What makes you happy?
Being tickled.  Funny conversations. Sometimes Peek-a-Boo Dolly.

What makes you sad?
Rice cereal.  It's so gross. Who would eat something so bland?!  Last week Mom tried to mix it in with some peaches.  She almost fooled me.  But I figured it out.  And then I made myself throw up.  Bet she doesn't try that again.

What is your favorite animal?
My golden puppy.  He has floppy ears that I like to hold onto when I wave him around.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
Peaches with carrots hidden inside.  And pears.  I could always eat pears.

What is your favorite thing to do?
Roll over in my crib at night. Fastest way to get Mom and Dad to run in and play with me!

What is your favorite song?
Ducks Like Rain by Raffi.  Mom and Dad are pretty sure 'duck' is going to be my first word.  I love ducks.

What is your favorite TV show?
Still Clifford.  We watch Clifford lots.  Mom says it's ok to watch an episode or two a day since I'm learning such great lessons.

What are you really good at?
Laughing.  I'm such a cutie pie.

What is your favorite movie?
Do World Cup games count? Because we've been watching a lot of those around here.

What is your favorite color?
Polka dots should really be a color. Stripes too. They don't get enough attention as just patterns.

Who is your best friend?
Uncle Gordie.  He's finally home and willing to make animal noises with me! We've been making lots of dolphin noises together.

What do you and mom do together?
We have tea parties.  We stole the tea set from Grandma's house and have many tea parties each day.  I always eat the chocolate cakes.  Mom gets the yellow cake--YU-ck.

What do you and dad do together?
We keep playing the paci game at night.  He puts me in my crib and puts my paci in my mouth.  Then I pull it out and hand it back to him.  Over and over and over again.

What is your favorite sport?
Soccer. World Cup--duh!

Where is your favorite place to go?
Anywhere there is a piece of technology I'm not supposed to have.  I try to get my little hands on as many cell phones and remotes as possible.  They look like good teething toys.

What is your favorite book?
Clifford!

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
How to escape.  So far I've figured out that I can shove my legs and arms through these crib slats.  I'm still trying to figure out how to stuff my body through those tiny crib slats.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
An etiquette teacher.  I love having tea parties, eating tiny cakes and drinking out of big girl glasses.  I'm still working on the art of sharing my chocolate cake and not dumping water down the front of myself, but I consider those things to be minor details I can iron out once I start my career.

Month 7 is over which means it is officially SUMMER! I have been waiting for this month since she was born so we can spend all our time together.  This month she has become so much more independent.  She continues to love baby food and will even eat some on her less favorite foods as long as they are hidden inside something delicious like peaches! She's babbling sounds that sound much more like words and shes starting to rock on her tummy like she's getting ready to crawl.  Oo yeah...and she got a third tooth.  I discovered it in the bath tub the other night so we're not exactly sure when she actually got it---working parents fail! Marley continues to be happy and healthy and we can't wait to see what this next month brings!

Alright mom...enough with the interview!

June 1, 2014

Miss Marilyn is SIX Months Old!

Marley is Six Months Old!

How old are you?
Six months old (but wearing 12 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
They've been using my full name a lot this month.  Mom says I need to know my real name instead of all these nicknames.

What makes you happy?
Quack, quack, quacks. Being tickled. Snuggles.

What makes you sad?
Still strangers. I use my big, crocodile sized tears to get back to Mom or Dad.  Also, being left to play by myself for too long.  A few quick coughs usually gets them paying attention again.

What is your favorite animal?
My new birdie from Easter.  He's so soft.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
Still pears and sweet potatoes.  Although I would really like something to bite into.  Enough of these purees.

What is your favorite thing to do?
Sit up by myself.  I have a much better view of the world from up here!

What is your favorite song?
All the top 40 hits Mom listens to in the car.  Sometimes they put me right to sleep...

What is your favorite TV show?
Still Clifford.  Such a cutie pie.

What are you really good at?
Sitting up by myself.  My balance has gotten better although I'm still a little bit of a weeble wobble.

What is your favorite movie?
Monster's University.  Those monsters are so funny.

What is your favorite color?
Pink, pink, and more pink!

Who is your best friend?
Daddy.  He's my go to person this month.

What do you and mom do together?
We swing.  I love the swing so much and Mom will push me for hours.  Sometimes she tries to eat my toes and I giggle and squeal.

What do you and dad do together?
He gives me kisses and I laugh hysterically.  He's so funny and he always tries to eat me! I even got a rash on my face from his scratchy beard.  Mom was pretty upset.  Dad kept kissing me.  Mom was still pretty upset.

What is your favorite sport?
Football.  I'm great at using all my strength to knock things out of the way.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Outside.  It's so peaceful!

What is your favorite book?
The Froggy books.

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
Snacks.  Or playing games.  This month I've been trying to eat my sleep sack or playing the paci game with Daddy.  Both are pretty satisfying.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A drama major.  This month I mastered the art of throwing tantrums at the drop of a hat.  I can cry whenever and convince any poor soul that my parent's are doing something awful to me.  Turns out I like to be in control just as much as Mom and Dad do.....

Month 6 flew by! We kept settling into the house, raced through Spring semester, and celebrated my parent's 30th wedding anniversary.  Our little munchkin is growing up so fast! At her last doctor's appointment, she was almost 20 pounds!  She's looking older and older each day and wants to be just as independent.  She still loves going to Grandma and Grandpa's house each morning and reaches for my mom as soon as we walk in the door.  No new teeth this month, although the top four are just sitting waiting to come through.  She's still a wonderful sleeper and eater.  Her laughter is contagious and her squeals radiate through the house.  We're still fighting some stranger danger and our little one loves her down time.  Can't wait to see what the next month brings!

April 25, 2014

Miss Marilyn is FIVE Months Old!

Marley is Five Months Old!

How old are you?
Five months old (but wearing 9-12 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
Munchkin, Baby Bird. Mom keeps telling Dad they have to stop using nicknames.  She's very worried I won't know my real name is Marilyn.

What makes you happy?
Animal noises, real food, bath time.

What makes you sad?
Strangers. I use my big, crocodile sized tears to get back to Mom or Dad.

What is your favorite animal?
Mr. Quackers. Mom and Dad squeeze his tummy and he goes "Quack, quack, quack." I squeal each time.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
PEARS. They are super delicious.  Sweet potatoes are pretty great too.  They just let me try carrots today and they were yummy.  Much better than rice cereal and applesauce. Can we say blahhh?

What is your favorite thing to do?
Eat.  I put on my best baby bird face and open up my mouth so that Mom knows exactly what to do.  I get so excited that I just point my little toes up in the air as I lift my head up.  I enjoy every bite and go "Mmmmmm" and I chew.  So excited these people are finally treating me like a big girl.

What is your favorite song?
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. Grandma's been teaching me some pretty sweet dance moves to go with the song.

What is your favorite TV show?
I didn't get to watch much TV this month. Pretty lame if you ask me.  But I still have hope that the baby sized TV will get some quality shows (Parent note--Marley thinks the baby monitor is her TV...).

What are you really good at?
The whole hand-eye coordination thing.  I love picking things up--especially with my right hand! Sorry Dad, looks like I take after Mom with this one.

What is your favorite movie?
No movies this month.  However, I'm still intrigued by the baby TV in Mom and Dad's room.  It's my size.  It should really go in my room.

What is your favorite color?
Orange. With baseball season in full swing, I've been grabbing at all the Giant's gear in the house.

Who is your best friend?
Mr. Quackers. He's so funny.

What do you and mom do together?
We snuggle in bed after work.  She's sooooo tired and I'm sooooo squirmy so it's lots of fun.  Unless I still have a burp buried deep inside. Then it's not so fun.

What do you and dad do together?
We share morning snuggles.  He and Mom always race to get me out of bed in the morning because I'm SO happy.  Dad usually convinces Mom to let him do it since she gets all the afternoon snuggles.  Then he plays with me while Mom finishes getting ready for work.

What is your favorite sport?
Dancing. I've got moves you've never seen.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Just staying home.  Finally a little peace and quiet around here.

What is your favorite book?
Clifford.  He's big and red so I can see him on the pages!

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
Rolling down hills.  I heave myself from side to side just to see how much momentum I can get.  Some nights I even manage to turn myself 180 degrees or onto my stomach.  If I end up on my stomach, I just scream and cry until Mom and Dad come flip me back over like a pancake. Works every time.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A food critic.  I've got lots of opinions people.  I was all about the sweet potatoes at first.  Delicious.  Applesauce was a little less interesting but rice cereal was beyond gross.  Mom was really letting her cooking slide.  Fortunately pears came into the mix.  Yum.  I LOVE pears.  More reviews to come...a new one every three days...

Month 5 was such a blur.  I feel like the months are going by faster and faster.  Marley still hates tummy time but she rolls over from front to back and back to front.  She loves getting in her car seat and seeing where we are going.  Her days are filled with fun activities Grandma plans and trying to grab Kato and Mango.  After finishing up the move, we are officially settled in the house.  Marley is getting so big and now has TWO teeth.  She screamed for five minutes each time one came through and then was back to being a happy camper.  This month we also survived her first cold over my spring break.  Our happy little girl continues to be quite the introvert.  She's happy as long as she doesn't have to be too much of anything.  Not too hot, too cold, too alone, too over stimulated, etc...  She spends each moment taking in everything around her and you can tell that her little brain is always thinking.  Her laughter is contagious and the best part of our day!  And those cheeks...I could squeeze them all day!

March 25, 2014

Miss Marilyn is FOUR Months Old!

Marley is Four Months Old!

How old are you?
Four months old (but wearing 9 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
Munchkin, Munch, Munch Munch. When I'm really fussy Mom goes, "Marilyn" and when I'm really pushing my luck I hear, "Marilyn Elizebeth."

What makes you happy?
- Kato.  He lets me snuggle sometimes.  And if I'm lucky, I end up with a fist full of Kato hair.
- Grandma and Grandpa's house.  With all the craziness going on with the new house, their house is the only peace and quiet I get around here.

What makes you sad?
Being tired. It's the worst.

What is your favorite animal?
An orca. I really channel their behavior during tummy time. Arched back, toes and arms in the air, chin up. Plus, I know how it feels to be trapped in a CAGE (I mean carseat...).

What is your favorite thing to eat?
Nothing. I just want real food.  Whenever people are eating around me, I just start chewing away.  I figure that at some point, they'll see I'm ready and finally feed me the good stuff.

What is your favorite thing to do?
Be a burrito.  Or a crepe.  Really any excuse to get naked and snuggle with my blanket is fine by me.

What is your favorite song?
"Let it go" from Frozen.  I squeal in the car and sing along. I have high hopes that someday Mom and Dad will do this.

What is your favorite TV show?
Clifford the Big Red Dog.  Grandma says Friday is really Friday Fun Day so I get to watch the big box.  It's pretty wonderful.  It's really too bad that Clifford can't come and play every morning.  I think Kato and Mango would really like another friend.

What are you really good at?
Smiling.  I've been flirting with all the workmen around here.  Hopefully they'll fall for my moves and pick up the pace.  One quick grin and a few little giggles is all it takes...

What is your favorite movie?
No movies this month.  However, I'm still intrigued by the baby TV in Mom and Dad's room.  It's my size.  It should really go in my room.

What is your favorite color?
Cabana Bay. That's the color of our new front door and the bathrooms and I LOVE it. So bright and cheerful.

Who is your best friend?
Mr. Bunny.  Sometimes his twin brother even shows up at Grandma's house.  When I'm really tired I get to nap with both of them so I don't knock my pacifier out of my mouth.  Apparently everyone likes to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa.

What do you and mom do together?
We organize things for the new house.  Pack, pack, pack.  Call, make lists, visit the workman.  I'm a great little trooper and help Mom keep things in line.

What do you and dad do together?
We play the paci game.  Daddy puts it in my mouth...I throw it to the other side of the crib and cry...Daddy comes back in and puts the paci back in my mouth...I throw it to the other side of the crib and cry...

What is your favorite sport?
Yoga.  There's a lot of back arching and body throwing going on these days.  I mean I DID roll over this month.

Where is your favorite place to go?
The new house!

What is your favorite book?
Goodnight Moon.  Such a peaceful book.

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
Eating.  I've resorted to munching on my sleeping bag before bed.  Mom and Dad really need to step up their game with the bedtime snacks around here.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
An interior designer.  I've spent the last month at Osh, Home Depot, Carpet One, Kelly Moore, Pottery Barn online...etc. I've seen paint swatch after paint swatch and I've looked at more area rugs than I care to admit.  I've helped Mom and Dad pick out new hardware and bath fixtures.  We've got a good vision looking and I can't wait to see the final product.

Month 4 passed in the blink of an eye.  I'm now back to work and in the swing of things.  Grant and I missed our first milestone as working parents when Marley rolled over with Grandma.  And we bought a house.  And we did a ton of work to the house.  Marley has been such a trooper amidst all the planning, packing, organizing and constant trips to various stores to get supplies.  She's gone with the flow and put up with the chaos.  She still loves her sleep, although the teething threw off her 10-12 hours of sleep a night routine.  We are teething in full force now and she is drooling up a storm.  Most days we go through a few outfits because they end up soaking wet...even with a bib.  She's trying to stick everything in her mouth and is learning she has a gag reflex (GROSS!).  She continues to get cuter and more snuggly each day.  When I pick her up after work each day, I can tell how much she's grown in just a few hours.  She is learning her name and continues to love when we get home from work each day.  She is full of smiles and thinks that Grant and I are SO funny.  She bursts out into laughter over absolutely nothing; but she really loves sounds right now.  And being a burrito/crepe/wrap/etc.  Naked time wrapped in her fleece blanket is her absolute favorite time of the day.  She makes her dinosaur noises and squeals with delight.  We love her so much and can't wait to see what the next month brings!

Miss Marilyn is THREE Months Old!

Marley is Three Months Old!

How old are you?
Three months old (but wearing 6-9 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
Munchkin, Munch

What makes you happy?
- Story time and morning snuggles in Mom and Dad's bed!
- The magical box with lights (TV)

What makes you sad?
- Not a whole lot these days.  But I know how to work the pouty lip to get what I want.  I've even mastered the fake cry.  The fall for it every single time.

What is your favorite animal?
- Still Mr. Bunny. He goes everywhere with me.
- Mr. Hippo is a nighttime favorite.  He lives in Mom and Dad's room.  I guess they decided they were lonely and got a new roommate after I moved out.  It's ok, he's a pretty snuggly guy.  I even let him stay during story time each night.  He gives really great hugs.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
My fists! Yum, yum, yum.  Mom says I get to try real food when I turn four months old. I'm so excited.  I just keep seeing everyone else eat lots of delicious food and I can't wait to try some!

What is your favorite thing to do?
Talk.  All month long I've been talking up a storm.  I have so much to say!  Mom and Dad call my gibber jabber "Dinosaur noises" and they just think I'm the cutest girl around.

What is your favorite song?
Any song that Mom and Dad make up...
"Hey hippo do your dance, do your dance, do your dance.
Hey hippo wave your arms, wave your arms, wave your arms.
Hey hippo kick your feet, kick your feet, kick your feet.
Hey hippo swing those hips, swing those hips, swings those hips..."

What is your favorite TV show?
HGTV is a favorite.  Those people have some great decorating ideas.  I'm hoping to convince Grandma to let me watch some more TV during the day.  Mom and Dad always turn the box off!  I also really enjoy facetiming.  Mom has this little TV that she turns on so I can see Uncle Gordie!

What are you really good at?
Sleeping! I'm sleeping through the night now.  Mom and Dad seem pretty thrilled about this.  I just like having happy dreams!  I even put myself to sleep at nap time now.  I seem to get extra bonus points around here for doing that!

What is your favorite movie?
No movies this month...just THE OLYMPICS.  oomygosh...they're better than the movies! Ice Skating is my favorite...all the spinning makes me shake my head back and forth.

What is your favorite color?
Mom's been introducing me to a lot of coral.  Coral and teal have been a fav combo this month.  Although, I've been wearing a lot of red, white, and blue around here with the Olympics, Arsenal games, and Valentines Day.

Who is your best friend?
Grandma! Now that Mom's back at work, I get to spend all day with Grandma and my favorite doggies Kato and Mango!

What do you and mom do together?
We take selfies.  I like to mimic Mom's face.

What do you and dad do together?
We giggle. LOTS. He always knows how to make me laugh.  He also puts me to sleep every night after story time.  It's our special time together.

What is your favorite sport?
Volleyball.  I've already mastered the art of spiking my ball across the room and I love swatting everything I can get my hands on.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Home. Walking through the door after a long day at Grandma and Grandpa's house I just light up! There's no place like home.

What is your favorite book?
These Dr. Seuss books are pretty amazing.  Mom and Dad have to think SO HARD about all the tongue twisters.  It's the best thing EVER! I spend the whole time kicking my legs and waving arms! I even try to read along with them. Fox in Socks is my favorite.

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
My delicious fists.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A writer or an artist.  I wrote/drew Dad the most wonderful card for Valentine's Day.  Sorry Mom, your cards just don't cut it anymore.  I haven't decided if I would call it a letter or a drawing--I'm not a huge fan of labels just yet.  I definitely have a creative side. Mixed in with a lot of Mom and Dad's type A focus and determination of course.

Month 3 was huge for us.  All of a sudden things seem to have gotten so much easier.  We know her cries by now and her nervous system seems to have settled down.  She was already an easy-going baby but now she puts herself to sleep both at nap time and bed time.  She' still our sweet, sensitive little girl.  She's happy almost all the time but really needs her personal time to decompress.  She doesn't like to be too hot, too cold, too wet, or too hungry.  She doesn't like to be overstimulated or playing with any one toy for too long.  She's pretty good at going with the flow and has adapted well to Mom going back to work.  She loves laying on one of her fleece blankets and anuggling with either Mr. Bunny or Mr. Hippo.  This month, she's even embraced wearing only a diaper as long as she can lay on her blanket and snuggle with an animal. She's super chatty--especially at nighttime.  Can't believe it's already been three months!

Miss Marilyn is TWO Months Old!

Marley is Two Months Old!

How old are you?
Two months old (but wearing 6-9 month clothes!)

Do you have any nicknames?
Tiny Munchkin, Marzipan (Daddy calls me this), Precious (Grandpa calls me this)

What makes you happy?
- Silly faces--I smile back and JUST started laughing. Who knew I could get even cuter?!
- My bouncy seats with activity bars.
- Recognizing people when they walk in the room! I have so many friends.

What makes you sad?
- Being hot- I wailed on Christmas Eve after they put me in my reindeer fleece. So NOT cool.
- Being wet- Mom and Dad are getting faster, but I let them know if I'm wet and they haven't noticed yet.

What is your favorite animal?
- Still Mr. Bunny. He goes everywhere with me.  Mom keeps trying to force me to take a paci. I only oblige sometimes; I'd much rather stuff Mr. Bunny's ears or mouth in my own mouth during a car ride.
- Hedgehog and Raccoon at Grandma's house.  They hang from the bar on my bouncy seat and we have great conversations together.

What is your favorite thing to eat?
Formula.  Although this whole solid food thing looks pretty interesting since I get to sit in my high chair at Grandma and Grandpa's house now that I'm a big girl!

What is your favorite thing to do?
Kick my ball. These people seem pretty thrilled that I'm so great at kicking the ball.  Something about having natural soccer skills...

What is your favorite song?
Mom says I really enjoy the organ at church.  I fell asleep right away during both Christmas Eve church and at my baptism.  Mom and Dad also made a Barenaked Ladies Pandora station.  I'm a big fan of one hit wonders from the 90's--clearly my parent's daughter.

What is your favorite TV show?
Soccer. Daddy, Uncle Gordie, and Grandpa keep trying to let me watch it with them.  Mommy and Grandma aren't too sure that's a good idea, but no one tries to make me sleep so I'm ok with it for now.

What are you really good at?
Smiling! I'm a very happy girl.  And sleeping.  Mommy and Daddy say I'm a GREAT sleeper.  They FINALLY let me out of that Rock n' Play and now I get my own crib in my own room.  A little peace and quiet around here...and some privacy.  About time.  Now I just say my to do list out loud and sometimes even fall asleep on my own.

What is your favorite movie?
Raffi in Concert.  That man has some pretty sweet tunes.

What is your favorite color?
Pink! Although Dad keeps trying to put me in this yellow Arsenal jersey.  I (and Mom) keep telling him that the red jersey is really more my color but he doesn't listen.

Who is your best friend?
Mommy.  Lately I've been all about Mommy time.

What do you and mom do together?
We read stories together and go for lots of walks.  I love when she comes to get me in the morning and I always greet her with a BIG smile.

What do you and dad do together?
We make faces together.  Daddy is SO funny.  He tickles my chin and sticks his tongue out and I smile for days.  He's the best!

What is your favorite sport?
Soccer! I love kicking my ball and wearing my Arsenal jersey.  Although I keep hearing chatter about something called the Olympics.  And Mom let me watch some ice skating the other day.  I was pretty fascinated by all the spinning.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Anywhere outside! I love the fresh air and usually the stroller lulls me to sleep.

What is your favorite book?
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...will there be enough room?!

What do you think about before you fall asleep?
Freedom. Lately Mom and Dad have started forgetting to swaddle me every night. I keep thinking that they'll remember and try to trap me in that potato sack again, but until then, I'll keep fist pumping before bed.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up.  But I can tell you that I definitely do NOT want to be a nurse. Mom and Dad took me to the office for my two month check up and that awful lady made me take off all my clothes.  It was freezing cold and I felt completely exposed.  The nice doctor came in and told Mom and Dad how wonderful I am; but I cried because I knew something was going to happen.  The doctor left and the nurse came back.  Then she stuck me. With a needle.  Three times.  And made me drink this awful potion.  Mom cried and Dad held me while she poked me.  It was traumatic for all of us.  Definitely crossing nurse off the potential career list.

I can't believe Marley is already two months old! With all the Christmas festivities it feels like this month flew by even faster than the last.  She was a real trooper with all the chaos and loved all the snuggles from different family members.  She's still sleeping like a champ! She usually goes down between 8:30 and 9:30 and will sleep until 5:30 or 6.  She'll wake up, eat 6 oz and then go back to sleep for another three hours.  Every night we say a little prayer that this pattern will continue!  This month she's definitely settled into a routine which has made her an even easier baby than before.  She wakes up, plays, eats, and is asleep about two hours after she wakes up.  She takes an hour long nap and then wakes up to play and eat again.  Then it's down for a much longer nap in the afternoon before she's up again.  Usually there is more food and a quick one hour nap before playtime.  And then she's down for the night.  Marley and I have spent lots of time walking this month trying to soak up all of the unusual sunshine!  She's babbling lots and loves making faces with everyone.  However, this month has been filled with a lot of stranger danger and she really just prefers to stick close to me lately.  She still LOVES Mango and Kato and smiles each time she sees them!  We love all the snuggles she gives and can't wait to see how she develops this next month!

January 5, 2014

We survived the holidays with a newborn!

Little Miss Marley was only nine days old by the time Thanksgiving rolled around this year.  She was a trooper and we put her in real clothes for the very first time.  She instantly looked so much older than she does when she's in one of her sleepers.  She spent most of the day sleeping and snuggling, but we did manage to get a family photo!

She did great all day until she WAILED on the drive home.  This was when we learned the lady does NOT like to be warm. Under any circumstances.  She prefers to be cool, calm, and collected at all times.

With Thanksgiving so late this year, Christmas seemed to sneak up on us! Thankfully we had already decorated for Christmas before Marley arrived. (Remember, the 40 week pregnant lady makes the rules around here...)  We tried to cram in as many Christmas movies and holiday traditions as possible!  Marley and I made it to a few Mommy and Me classes and baked holiday treats with Grandma while Grant was at work.  She loved all her quality time with Uncle Gordie once he made it home after law school finals were over and soon enough we were celebrating Christmas!

But first, we snuck in a day date to celebrate our second wedding anniversary and saw Saving Mr. Banks.

Grandpa came up a few days before Christmas and Marley opened her very first Christmas present.  After dinner and presents we decorated gingerbread houses! Grant and I made Marley her very first house with her initials on it.  Very important to introduce her to the concept of a monogram early on.

Christmas Eve we went to church and then Auntie Caroline's house for dinner.  The sweet Christmas Carols lulled the little one to sleep (clearly my daughter) and she slept peacefully the whole time in her snowflake dress.

When we got to Caroline's, Grant and I decided to put Marley in her reindeer jammies so she could get ready for bed.  BIG mistake.  Homegirl does not like to be hot (see incident above at Thanksgiving).  She was happy for about ten minutes (although this photo alludes to discontent from the very beginning...).

Then the wailing began....a little naked time and a normal sleeper later and she was sleeping soundly while we ate dinner and watched A Christmas Story.

She slept almost ten hours that night giving Santa plenty of time to deliver her presents to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  She sported her "Mommy's Favorite Present" onesie and loved looking at everything.  We struggled with over stimulation throughout the day, but she was a trooper and loved all the snuggles she got.

We've now packed up all the Christmas decorations and written all our thank you notes.  Can't wait until next year when she'll be even more aware of the magic of Christmas!

And then it was New Year's Eve.  The past few years have been pretty big nights for us.  NYE 2010: Auntie Dora and Uncle Jim got married. NYE 2011 and NYE 2012: San Francisco Shenanigans with Scott and Lindsay.  This year we were all asleep by 8:45 and I wouldn't have had it any other way!
